The 9 Things That Should Be In Any Boiler Quote

1. The exact boiler — make, model and kW output

A quote that just says ‘new combi boiler’ can be met with any boiler at any price. The kW output matters as much as the brand: undersized and you get weak hot water, oversized and you pay for capacity you never use.

Ask: which model, what output, and why that one for my house?

2. Whether the system gets a power flush — and whether you get a certificate

Every old system carries iron sludge. If it isn’t flushed out it circulates through your brand-new boiler from day one, and most manufacturer warranties can be refused because of it. A flush is the single most commonly skipped item on a cheap quote.

Ask: is a full system power flush included, and do I get the certificate?

3. Whether a magnetic filter is included, and where it’s fitted

The flush cleans out what’s already there. The filter catches what forms afterwards, before it reaches the boiler. One without the other only solves half the problem.

Ask: is a magnetic filter included and fitted on the return pipe?

4. What the warranty actually is — how long, and who registers it

Warranty length is often quoted at its maximum and only granted if the boiler is registered within a set window and serviced annually. If nobody registers it, you may not have it.

Ask: how many years, what conditions, and do you register it for me?

5. Whether the old boiler is removed and disposed of under licence

‘Removal’ and ‘licensed disposal’ are not the same thing. Waste left in your drive or taken away by someone without a waste carrier licence can come back to you.

Ask: is removal included, and are you a licensed waste carrier?

6. Whether the price is fixed or an estimate

This is the one that costs people the most. An estimate given without a survey can move on the day — and it usually moves upward, once the job is already started and you have no leverage.

Ask: is this a fixed price in writing, and what happens if it changes?

7. Whether gas and electrical work is included — and certified

New boilers often need pipework upgrades, a new gas run, or electrical work. If those are excluded from the quote they become extras on the day, and they are not small.

Ask: is all gas and electrical work included, and do I get the certificates?

8. Who is actually doing the work

Plenty of firms sell the job and subcontract the fitting to whoever is free. You will not meet them until they are in your house, and the person who quoted you will not be there.

Ask: will the person who surveyed my home be involved in the installation?

9. What happens to your home

Fitting a boiler is a messy job. Dust sheets, floor protection, making good around the old unit and clearing up afterwards are all real costs someone is either absorbing or skipping.

Ask: what protection do you put down, and what state is the room left in?
