Most companies will not tell you what happens in a boiler survey, because for a lot of them it is a look at the old boiler and a number on the doorstep. This is ours, all twenty-two steps, in the order they happen.
It is the reason our price is fixed. You cannot promise a price you have not surveyed for.
What we check in your home
We meet you
Introductions, and we explain what the next hour or two involves before we start.
We ask what you actually need
How many people are in the house, how the hot water gets used, and what has gone wrong with the current system.
We inspect the existing system
The boiler itself, its age and condition, and how it was installed.
We check the flue
Its route and condition, and whether it can stay where it is or has to move.
We check the radiators
How many, what condition they are in, and whether they suit the system you are getting.
We check the gas meter and supply
Including whether the existing gas run can carry a new boiler, which is a common and expensive surprise on the day.
We measure water pressure and flow rate
The check that decides whether a combi will actually perform in your house. This is the one almost nobody does over the phone.
We check the electrics
The supply and the controls the new boiler will run from.
We work out the full install requirements
Everything the job will genuinely need — before anybody mentions a price.
What we show you, and agree with you
Some of these are us selling, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. That is exactly why we call them steps rather than checks. A survey that never explains what you are buying is not a better survey, it is a shorter one.
We show you the brochure
The boilers we would fit in your house, and why those ones.
We show you our work and our reviews
Real installations and real customers, so you are not taking our word for it.
We recommend a solution
Sized to your home. If a smaller or cheaper boiler is the right answer, that is the one we recommend.
We confirm the system type
Combi, system or regular — and the reason it is that one.
We explain exactly what is included
Boiler, magnetic filter, scale reducer, shock arrestor, controls, flue, power flush, chemicals, warranty registration, waste removal and the Gas Safe certificate.
We choose your controls together
Hive or EPH, depending on how you want to run the heating.
We tell you why Drake
And what a cheaper quote usually leaves out. You are welcome to hold this against every other quote you get.
We go through your questions
Anything you want answered before you decide anything.
We complete the survey and quote checklist
So nothing found in your house gets lost between the visit and the price.
Your price, and your date
We present your quote
Itemised, in writing, and fixed. This is the number you pay.
We go through payment options
Including finance, which is provided by an FCA-authorised third party, not by us.
We secure the booking
Only if you want to go ahead. Nothing is owed before this point.
We book your installation date
And you know exactly who is coming and what is happening.
There is actually a 23rd step
Follow-up and aftercare — if you are not ready to decide, we call you back within 48 hours and send the quote and brochure by email.
We do not count it in the twenty-two, because it happens after the survey rather than during it. It would have been easy to call this a 23-step survey. It is 22.
